  1. 1- The exact position of the ball with respect to the field of play is a single coordinate point (x,y) located in the center of the ball. It is not an area but a point.

2- The height of the ball (z) does not matter to determine if the ball is inside or outside the field

3- If the ball is resting on the ground, the position of the ball, that single point coincides with the point of the ball that makes contact with the ground

4- The position of the ball does not depend on the size of the ball

5- If the center of the ball is on the wide line, even at one end the ball has not yet come out

6- If the center of the ball is outside the line, the coordinate of the ball x,y is outside, therefore the ball is outside the field regardless of the fact that because it is a large part of the sphere it may be above the line

  2. my only concern with this is when the ball hits the player foot is not when the ball stops. it can still travel a little bit depending on how the ball is struck over the line… when you are dealing with minute mm's how can we be sure the ball hasn't travelled further in the act of kicking it….

  3. Ok ESPN, why don’t you use the VAR pic shot from right above ? The ball wasn’t 99% out, more like 85% which explained clearly why the ball was still alive. I guess it HAS to be controversial for TV.

  4. Just the fact that Japan was even in contention to make it out of groups is remarkable. When you get locked in a Group with European titans Germany and Spain, that is usually the Group of Death.
